About Sotheby’s
Founded in London in 1744, Sotheby’s has been headquartered in Mayfair since 1917. Known for its prestigious auctions across art and decorative categories, Sotheby’s also provides services such as valuations, consignments, and sales advice, along with an on-site restaurant.
The Project
For effective public management and information display within Sotheby’s galleries, stanchions, barrier systems and effective signage were essential. The design needed to reflect Sotheby’s professional image while maintaining its traditional appeal, so a sleek, discreet, yet modern solution was chosen.
Our Solution
Keyhole top barrier system
Modular functionality was essential, so we supplied keyhole top stanchions with rope ball ends, chosen for easy rope removal and interchangeability across moveable stanchions, enabling flexible placement in various locations.
Magnetic Display Stand for signage
We also used our large stanchions which were finished with a premium nickel-plated and antique bronze coating, combining a timeless look with modern design. Over time, the antique finish develops a classic patina, complementing the galleries' refined aesthetic. To fix over the large stanchion, we manufactured a slim, stylish magnetic display unit to allow for easy interchangeability of signage. With expertly crafted backplates and front covers, the magnetic cover lifts off to reveal signage behind clear Perspex, while stanchion brackets enable the unit to tilt through 180 degrees for optimal display flexibility.
Screw top Barrier System
Additionally, we supplied our Small Screw Tops Stanchions to create an effective barrier system for a different location.
Management & Execution
To ensure timely delivery and adherence to specifications, efficient project management was essential from the initial design consultation with the Sotheby’s team to final delivery and on-site assembly. As manufacturers, we managed every stage of the process, from production to finishing, ensuring the product design and finish met the highest standards at each step. The result was a product that fully met the expectations of all parties involved.
